L2L in Toronto’s Neighbourhood Improvement Areas (NIAs)
Under the Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy 2020, Toronto designated 31 NIAs based on various indicators of socio-economic need. L2L programs fill important gaps in academic support for students in under-resourced schools in these neighbourhoods.

- L2L Tutors worked one-on-one with peers at their school helping them develop effective learning strategies and overcome academic challenges.
- In accordance with results from previous years, the top three subjects tutored in 2023-24 were Math, Language Arts, and Science.
- Students provided peer tutoring”: “Peer tutoring allows peers to better grasp challenging topics, improve their grades, and feel more confident in school. Additionally, peer-to-peer learning in a 1-on-1 setting promotes collaborative learning and fosters positive relationships among students, creating a sense of community and belonging.

- To become certified L2L Tutors, students completed the L2L Tutor Training Program and provided a minimum of 10 hours of free tutoring to their peers at school.
