About the organization:

Licensed to Learn (L2L) is the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF)’s Canadian education program. Since 2002, we have supported over 40,000 students across the country to improve their grades and develop leadership skills through our free peer-tutoring programs. We train and certify high-achieving students to volunteer as tutors, who mentor their peers struggling in school. By making peer tutoring accessible, we eliminate educational disparities and ensure students can get the academic support they need to succeed in school, graduate, and achieve their full potential.

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Program Manager to oversee the operations and strategic direction of L2L. The Senior Program Manager will report to the IDRF Program Lead – National Initiatives.

 

Roles and responsibilities will include:
  • Lead and manage major aspects of Licensed to Learn (L2L), including project planning, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, risk management, team management, and project execution.
  • Ensure that appropriate project records are maintained to provide a sound basis for project tracking, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Expand L2L into a greater number of schools and community-based settings across Canada, with priority focus on Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Halifax.
  • Collaborate with IDRF’s Marketing and Fundraising departments to build L2L’s brand and educate external parties and stakeholders of the value of supporting L2L programming.
  • Organize conferences and training sessions in schools and community-based organizations to promote L2L.
  • Facilitate extensive narrative and financial reporting, needs assessments, project monitoring, and evaluation activities.
  • Proactively respond to funding opportunities by authoring effective and compelling Letters of Intent (LOIs), project proposals, and budgets, and ensure the timely submission of top-quality final proposals.
  • Support partner organizations in understanding and complying with donor agreements and IDRF guidelines and requirements.
  • Author ongoing reports to funders on project progress and ensure adherence to donor reporting requirements.
  • Provide operational support to leadership in the Programs Department related growing its internal capacities and facilitating coordination with other departments.
  • Provide administrative assistance: planning and organizing meetings, authoring program briefs and supervising volunteers.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree and diploma in either education, project management or a related discipline. Experience working with students in an educational or community setting an asset.
  • Two to five years of professional experience working in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing and management, developing budgets, overseeing extensive monitoring and evaluation activities, and authoring narrative and financial reports.
  • Experience working with institutional donors highly desirable.
  • High proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent creative problem-solving capabilities and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet urgent deadlines.
  • Highly independent, and able to work in a leadership role with minimal supervision.
  • Superior interpersonal, cultural sensitivity, and diplomacy skills.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Program Officer to play a crucial role in supporting the operations of L2L and expanding the reach of our free peer-tutoring program. The successful candidate will provide administrative support, coordinate and lead L2L programs in the Greater Toronto Area, and develop and implement outreach strategies to build partnerships and engage community organizations and schools in our programs. 

 

Roles and responsibilities will include:
  1. Providing Administrative Support 
  • Processing monthly program expenses
  • Assisting with scheduling and leading team meetings and taking meeting minutes
  • Tracking program activities, including but not limited to schools and organizations reached, the number of children and youth benefitting from each program, and monitoring and evaluation data collected
  • Supporting the recruitment and training of program contractors and volunteers
  • Assisting with developing, printing, and distributing program materials
  • Data entry for the International Development and Relief Foundation’s portfolio of Canadian programs
  1. Community Outreach and Developing Relationships with Stakeholders:
  • Developing and executing outreach strategies to raise awareness of our peer-tutoring programs within the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with schools and community organizations to foster partnerships and collaborations.
  • Participating in community events, workshops, and presentations to promote our organization’s mission and services.
  1. Leading Programs in Select Schools and Community Organizations:
  • Collaborating with administration and staff at schools and community organizations to understand their needs and tailor programs accordingly, coordinate dates for the delivery of tutor training sessions, and gather feedback.
  • Delivering tutor training sessions.
  • Supporting School and Community Coordinators with the implementation of the program
  • Leading review sessions with the tutors.
  • Registering programs and collecting tutor and peer registrations and post-program surveys and other relevant data.
  • Collaborating with school and L2L staff to prepare and present tutor certificates and organize a final review and celebration ceremony with program participants.

 

Qualifications:
  • Passionate about education, empowering children and youth, and community development.
  • Belief that all students can succeed under the right conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Education, Child and Youth Studies, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience including, but not limited to, classroom teaching, youth mentorship, community outreach, and/or youth program coordination.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

L2L trains high-achieving students to volunteer as tutors, who then go on to support their peers who are struggling in school.

 

Trainers are key members of the L2L team. As an L2L Trainer, your roles and responsibilities will include:
  • Working with staff at schools and community organizations to coordinate dates for the delivery of tutor training sessions
  • Delivering tutor training sessions
  • Supporting Coordinators with the implementation of tutoring sessions
  • Leading review sessions with the tutors
  • Registering programs and collecting tutor and peer registrations and post-program surveys and other relevant data
  • Collaborating with school and L2L staff to prepare and present tutor certificates and organize a final review and celebration ceremony with program participants

 

Desired qualifications of an L2L Trainer:
  • Passionate about education and supporting children and youth
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities
  • Belief that all students can succeed under the right conditions
  • Relevant experience including, but not limited to, classroom teaching, youth mentorship, post-secondary training in education, child and youth studies, leadership development, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of Multiple Intelligences, Learning Styles, and Mindsets
  • L2L is committed to hiring individuals whose lived and/or professional experience aligns with the diverse student communities we impact. Experience working with newcomers, at-risk youth, and children and youth from equity-seeking groups is considered an asset.
  • All L2L Trainers will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department. Upon clearance, expenses incurred will be reimbursed by Licensed 2 Learn.

This commitment is flexible and Trainers can plan their schedule in collaboration with schools and local partners. The workload of an L2L trainer depends on the number of programs undertaken. You can expect a 5-10 hour time commitment per program. Trainers receive an honorarium for each program delivered.
