About the role:

L2L is a Canadian charity that helps students achieve academic success through free peer tutoring and mentorship programs. Since 2002, we have helped over 40,000 students improve their grades and develop leadership skills. L2L trains and certifies high-achieving students to volunteer as tutors who mentor their peers struggling in school. By making peer tutoring accessible, we eliminate educational disparities and ensure students can get the academic support they need to succeed in school, graduate, and achieve their full potential.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Program Officer to play a crucial role in supporting the operations of L2L and expanding the reach of our free peer-tutoring program. The successful candidate will provide administrative support, coordinate and lead L2L programs in the Greater Toronto Area, and develop and implement outreach strategies to build partnerships and engage community organizations and schools in our programs. 

 

Roles and responsibilities will include:
  1. Providing Administrative Support 
  • Processing monthly program expenses
  • Assisting with scheduling and leading team meetings and taking meeting minutes
  • Tracking program activities, including but not limited to schools and organizations reached, the number of children and youth benefitting from each program, and monitoring and evaluation data collected
  • Supporting the recruitment and training of program contractors and volunteers
  • Assisting with developing, printing, and distributing program materials
  • Data entry for the International Development and Relief Foundation’s portfolio of Canadian programs
  1. Community Outreach and Developing Relationships with Stakeholders:
  • Developing and executing outreach strategies to raise awareness of our peer-tutoring programs within the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with schools and community organizations to foster partnerships and collaborations.
  • Participating in community events, workshops, and presentations to promote our organization’s mission and services.
  1. Leading Programs in Select Schools and Community Organizations:
  • Collaborating with administration and staff at schools and community organizations to understand their needs and tailor programs accordingly, coordinate dates for the delivery of tutor training sessions, and gather feedback.
  • Delivering tutor training sessions.
  • Supporting School and Community Coordinators with the implementation of the program
  • Leading review sessions with the tutors.
  • Registering programs and collecting tutor and peer registrations and post-program surveys and other relevant data.
  • Collaborating with school and L2L staff to prepare and present tutor certificates and organize a final review and celebration ceremony with program participants.

 

Qualifications:
  • Passionate about education, empowering children and youth, and community development.
  • Belief that all students can succeed under the right conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Education, Child and Youth Studies, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience including, but not limited to, classroom teaching, youth mentorship, community outreach, and/or youth program coordination.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, operating in a hybrid work environment (3 days per week in office). Salary is commensurate with experience.

Licensed to Learn (L2L) is our education program in Canada, which has supported over 45,000 students with academic support. Our peer-tutoring model teaches high-achieving students to be empathetic mentors and strong leaders. They then support their peers who are struggling in school— at no cost to the students!

What you’ll be doing as an L2L Trainer:

  • Leverage relationships with schools and community organizations to incorporate the L2L tutor training program 
  • Deliver tutor training sessions
  • Administer student surveys to assess program impact
  • Lead check-in and review sessions with tutors
  • Prepare and present tutor certificates and organize a program completion celebration
What we’d like from you:
  • Experience as a tutor, educator, teaching assistant, or workshop facilitator
  • Post-secondary training in education, child and youth studies, leadership development, or a related discipline – recent graduates are encouraged to apply!
  • Have a passion for education and supporting students facing academic challenges
  • Have an open mind and creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • A belief that all students can succeed under the right conditions
  • Established professional relationships with teachers, principles and school administrators are considered TREMENDOUS assets
What we’d like from you:
  • This role is part-time and very flexible—you work with the schools to determine your schedule
  • You can expect a 5-10 hour time commitment per program, which may run for a school term or the school year
  • Trainers receive a $750 honorarium for each program completed
  • Travel mileage will be reimbursed
  • A fun and inclusive office culture

All L2L Trainers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department.
