Lara's Story
When Lara came to Canada from Turkey she knew very little English. In three years she grasped the language, excelled academically and built a strong reputation at her school and in the community as a youth leader, and change maker. As the leader of the L2L Program in her Toronto high school, she built one of L2L’s most engaged and active youth-led programs.
During her time at L2L, Lara accomplished a great deal! She was a Tutor who helped students at her school overcome the academic challenges they faced. She was a the leader of her student-led L2L program.
Lara was concerned that her English skills would affect her ability to help others, however…She realized that “if you want to help people, you just need one language. It’s the language that we all share, the language of emotions and interactions.”
During her time at L2L, Lara accomplished a great deal! She was a Tutor who helped students at her school overcome the academic challenges they faced. She was a the leader of her student-led L2L program. She was a featured guest at the L2L Leadership Conference which included speakers from Royal Bank of Canada, TELUS, and more.
Lara is now a successful university student, continuing to make positive change and launching her exciting career!
