He was a Black trailblazer in Canadian politics. Now Lincoln Alexander is being honoured at Queen’s Park
In a life full of firsts, the late Lincoln Alexander is marking another on the 102nd anniversary of his birth.
Canada’s first Black member of Parliament and federal cabinet minister and Ontario’s first and only Black lieutenant-governor is immortalized in a larger-than-life bust unveiled Sunday at the legislature, where his term spanned 1985 to 1991.
In a building with many busts of historical figures, Alexander is the first Black person to be honoured, for his trail-blazing path and in a modern style.
